Creating Resistance: Youth Art/Work from the Purple Thistle Centre
The Purple Thistle Centre is a youth-run arts, activism and resource centre in East Van. This art/work was created at the Purple Thistle by youth and youth allies, in a spirit of learning based on curiosity, self-direction and community; it demonstrates the media and skills youth can access and explore in our space. Our processes of inquiry and creation are in active resistance to capitalist values.
Creating Resistance: Youth Art/Work from the Purple Thistle Centre showcases the variety of media explored in one year of the Purple Thistle Centre, as we give voice to multiplicity of issues found within the intersections of community, art, and activism.
Curated by Carla Bergman, Sarah Lum, Diana Hart & Afuwa Granger.
Artists/Activists Joi Arcand, Carla Bergman, Sadie Couture, Aly D., Arlin Ffrench, Caitlin Ffrench, Afuwa Granger, Diana Hart, Leia Herrera, Adam Huggins, Shizen Jambor, Sarah Lum, Kevin Matheson, Marita Michaelis, Hebecca Montoril, and Samantha Ruth present paintings, linocuts, screenprints, photography, couture fashion, zines, animation & film stills made at the Purple Thistle Centre.
