ANU: The Mother

ANU 10: The Mother

THURSDAY MARCH 15 2012. 8PM
ANU is an annual  gathering of contemporary and traditional musicians, dancers, vocalists and visual artists.  In honour of International Women’s Day,  and scheduled to not conflict with other IWD events, 14 brilliant women artists perform together under the theme THE MOTHER.

In exploring THE MOTHER, artists gather for a series of meetings that lead to a performance of guided improvisation where the spotlight leads to spontaneous creation, artistic freedom, chaos, symphony and surrender.

The concept of ANU emerged as artist Jabbar Al Janabi’s response to the destruction in his hometown of Baghdad during the 1990s Gulf War.  What if, he wondered, in those moments of explosive light ― the result could be pure creation, instead of pure destruction?
